We got a behind-the-scenes scoop of when the magic happens.
“It’s very dynamic. Depends on the mental space that I’m in, the inspiration and the story I’m trying to portray. I look at everything from a canvas rather than the actual final thing.” We get a glimpse at how Mahoota looks at what we’d call- ‘just ordinary’. With not many guidelines that exist in the fashion world, Mahoota merges a lot of elements and creates not only something that is beyond imagination but can be seen and worn everywhere.
Mahoota shares how one of his collection called INGOZI was inspired by the loadshedding that is going on. The design intention was to link how power plants and electric fences with all their signage described the dangers of them- electric, do not touch, danger. “It also resembles the kind of work that we do, our work is electrifying- don’t play with our work!” he exclaimed. The Camo collection is also one for the books of nothing ordinary. With the intention that anyone wearing it blended in with a certain territory, like in the army or military- On the double! “I’ve always seen Camels as fascinating beyond their function.” he added. He then redefined the Camel into a lifestyle - we don’t promise you surviving the safari desert.
With growing his passion from a young age, Mahoota reminds us that no number of years make you immune to tough times.
“I learned this especially during my gaming years, that when playing you doy (get out the game) but no matter how many times you doy you’ve got to pick yourself up and get back in the game.” A true symbol of trial vs error, is never to dwell on what went wrong, but rather to focus on how to move forward. Mahoota goes on to mention how running things at a consistent pace is essential to him. “Having a team strengthens the project” he added. His recent DIY Collab T-shirt drop after-party, taught him that delegating is also one of the elements that keeps Swank INGOZI- GEVAAR!
Grab a pen and paper cause we got you personality traits that will have people moving with caution around your work.
“Be willing to stick it out. Dedication is important, having the ability to prepare for each season. And lastly know how to do it rather than just doing it.” Mahoota reminds us that a dangerous person doesn’t land on luck and troubleshooting- put in the work!
