The Message of Inauguration

2 CORINTHIANS 4:17-18 NLT
For our present troubles are small and won't last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don't look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

Understanding the Message:

How do you typically evaluate the size of the troubles you are facing right now? What kind of shift did Paul suggest in today's verses?

What is the challenge of focusing on the things that you can't see right now?
• How can you strike a balance between an awareness of God's rewards for today's faithfulness and being present in the challenges of the moment?

Applying the Message

You are right to take the troubles you face today seriously, and you should give them your full consideration. The pain and exhaustion of challenges and suffering can take a very real toll. You should also respond with empathy and care to the difficulties others face.

Yet when you step back from the immediacy of the moment and read today's scripture verses, you'll see that Paul offered another viewpoint. You can look at today through God's eternal lens, seeing how each small choice and action impacts your enjoyment of the new life. The more you learn to value the things of God's kingdom today, the more you'll find contentment in Him.
This is a moment for encouragement and hope even in dark, uncertain times. God hasn't forgotten you. Persevering today and remaining present in His will has far-reaching ramifications that you can only imagine on this side of heaven.

prayer

Father, thank You for Your generous comfort and hope that can carry me through the difficulties of today. May I never become so preoccupied with the things of the present moment that I can't see how You've prepared a place for me that will overshadow the pain of today. Amen.
