Ben Luc on his high end street fashion sense

Street fashion is a fashion sense that has been considered to have emerged from the late 1990s. It commonly centres on casual, comfortable pieces such as jeans, T-shirts, baseball caps and tracksuits pants and tops which may be complemented by a pair of sneakers. Enthusiasts often follow particular brands and try to obtain limited edition releases. We met up with one of a few influential local brand owners from Pretoria, Ben, who is the founder of BenLuc and agreed to tell us more about his brand.

“BenLuc is a timely social experiment and the name came from both my names which are Ben and Lucky fused together to get the brand name BenLuc. I grew up as a kid who always wanted to look and feel different, and that has always paved my way to creating a 100% South African owned manufacturing company of my own which I then decided to have a brand out of too.”

Ben explained how his love for fashion developed at the early stages of his life, “I think it was around 2007 when skinny jeans were still trending.”

He went on to describe his journey in the manufacturing business as interesting and described the brand to be an image of himself, “I made sure that my brand is made out of what made me, so my everyday life has been the process for me to be what I am, and it has been a great journey thus far, because I get to live according to my own lifestyle whilst I work on myself. I am grateful for what I’ve made of my brand so far and I don’t regret how far I have come because its part of my lifestyle.

A few challenges BenLuc has faced since opening his brand are getting people to understand that he is different and not like any other regular brands sand people often underestimate and compare his quality fabrics which are not even found in South Africa to the other brands.

“Since being launched we have achieved a lot of things but the best part was managing and being able to afford our own equipment, from manufacturing to printing BenLuc does not import anything” he said.

Lectus proin nibh nisl condimentum id venenatis a. Ac odio tempor orci dapibus ultrices in iaculis. Turpis nunc eget lorem dolor sed viverra ipsum. Mauris ultrices eros in cursus turpis massa. Tellus integer feugiat scelerisque varius morbi enim nunc faucibus a. Risus in hendrerit gravida rutrum quisque non tellus orci ac.

Ben ended off by advising anyone that wishes to be a brand owner to, “trust the process.”

He continued to say that you should believe in your dreams and always strive to follow them. “Listen to the universe because it is speaking to you, everything you see, hear and feel is a lesson that requires for you to understand in order to make anything possible in your life.

All in all Ben sees his brand being the number 1 top streetwear brand in South Africa and he wishes to open other branches overseas in the coming years.

You can find the BenLuc Store Hall situated in

Pretoria CBD on 381 Helen Joseph.
